The retailer will roll out Amazon's high speed delivery service, Prime Now, in cities outside of Paris, making its Monoprix brand products available to more Prime customers over the course of the next year.

“With this new partnership, we will be able to offer the greatest number of customers the best products and services whenever and wherever they wish,” Jean Charles Naouri, chief executive of Group Casino, said.

In addition to expanding its delivery programme, Casino will also install Amazon lockers in 1,000 locations across France.

Amazon customers would be able to send and collect products at nine of the Casino Group's brands. Casino-branded products will also be made available on Amazon's app and website.

“This announcement represents a new step in strengthening Casino's omnichannel strategy to always be a little more in the heart of consumers' lives,” Naouri added.

Last year, Casino became the first French retailer to enter into a partnership with Amazon, which allowed products from the brand Monoprix to be delivered in Paris through Prime Now.

It comes after Casino announced it would sell 12 hypermarkets and 20 supermarkets to Apollo Global Management for 470m euros (£406.5m) in an effort to cut debts and remain profitable in the face of market competition.

Amazon, which owns the upmarket grocery chain Whole Foods, has been expanding its presence in the food business in the past few years, with the company looking to launch supermarkets across the US.
